Growing up in the 80s and 90s

1980s

Life seemed so much more simpler back in the 80s and 90s growing up.

If you wanted to see if your friends were coming out to play you would have to walk to their house to see if they were in,if not walk all the way back home,Even though we all had house phones we rarely phoned each other.

Being grounded was the worst punishment, not being allowed out for a week or 2

We’d all play out and come back home in time for tea

As teenagers and young adults there was no mobile phones,cameras,cam- corders with evidence of embarrassing photos videos

You’d get about an hour and a half of TV after school followed by neighbours and home and away

Even though there wasn’t as many TV channels as there is today it still had the best TV shows in my opinion..You had…

Grange hill,byker grove,raggy dolls,woof,the demon headmaster,t.bag,he-man,inspector gadget,knight rider and much more

And the films….omg I still love them now, karate kid,Goonies, dirty dancing, don’t tell mom the babysitters dead, big, labyrinth, back to the future

On Sundays we would sit with our stereo listening the the top 40 countdown fingers at the ready to press record on our favourite songs..

Tiffany,Kylie,wet wet wet,bros

We used to play on our bikes, roller skates.

I used to have a huge collection of Barbie and sindy dolls and more clothes for them than I had.

I used to own a cabbage patch doll which came with a adoption certificate which was the best thing ever.I also had a couple of care Bear teddys and a Orville doll which I got upset about because I thought he’d talk to me like he did on the TV 😆

The fashion was raa raa skirts, dungarees and shell suits

As teenagers we’d get someone to buy our alcohol and drink white lightning and MD 20 20, which to this day I know just the smell of it would make me throw up.

There wasn’t as many shops back then so everything was local shops, local baker, local newsagents which the paper boy used to deliver the newspaper,we used to have a milkman that delivered our milk, and the bin men used to come round the back of our house to fetch the bins.

Although the internet and social media has its uses I do miss the simple life.
